Leeds Animation Workshop, a co‑operative with thirty years' experience in making film and DVD resources on social issues, has produced an animated short film about saving energy at home, especially for people with learning disabilities.
Everyone Can Save Energy, which is available on DVD, is designed to help these consumers reduce the amounts of electricity and gas they use and the script was recorded using the voices of actors with learning disabilities.
Leeds Animation Workshop consulted a range of learning disability organisations including Mencap and CHANGE; and energy experts at LEDA (Leeds Environmental Design Associates). The project was funded by the Eaga Partnership Charitable Trust and supported by Leeds City Council, and the packs are being distributed throughout the country.
According to Leeds Animation Workshop: "At a time when fuel costs are rising steeply, and when many vulnerable consumers are moving from hostel accommodation to independent tenancies, there is an urgent need for this kind of guidance. The DVD shows simple things that we can all do to save energy at home."
Everyone Can Save Energy is available on DVD on a non-profit basis with a price of £40 including VAT for an individual copy.
